A long time ago on a snowy night, magic filled the air and toys came to life! Roanoke Ballet Theatre presents the classic children's holiday story, "The Magic Toyshop", as a new full-length ballet in two acts with original choreography by Sandra Meythaler, Executive/Artistic Director. This performance features Roanoke's own City Youth Ballet and includes guest dancers from the Hollins Repertory Dance Company. Join us for an evening of magical fun for all ages.

Do you have the dance moves to fill five minutes? Then Dance Hypothesis is looking for you. The event at the Roanoke Ballet Theatre will bring musicians and dancers together for a night of experimental fun.

Individual dancers and dance groups will have the floor for five minutes to show their stuff. All dance styles, from modern to belly, are welcome. Dancers must be age 16 and older.

The show is the idea of Liza Deck, a modern-dance instructor at Roanoke Ballet Theatre. Deck, who also teaches dance at Roanoke City Schools, said she wanted to create an opportunity for dancers to experiment, without having to sell their work to someone. Musicians are also welcome, as are dance and music collaborations.

Those who want to perform should arrive at the ballet studio on Grandin Road by 4 p.m. to audition. Depending on how many groups show up, Deck said she hopes everyone will have a chance to perform at the 7 p.m. show. Any kind of dance will do, Deck said. "If you think it's dance, if you're not sure it's dance, come in and show me," Deck said. "I have a wide-open opinion of what counts as dance."
